Are half-Asian people generally more attractive than full-Asian people?

“I am that much hotter because my dad is white”

So all my life, I’ve heard this comment numerous times from many people – “Their kids are going to be really cute with a white dad and Asian mom.” Is this true? Are Amerasian kids cuter or more attractive than full Asian kids? Why do so many people, both Non-Asians and Asians, think that?

So I tried to think back and determine if I knew or knew of or seen any half-Asian people who were very attractive. I do remember a few who were very attractive, mostly half-Asian girls. For guys, it’s harder for me to determine or judge but not a whole lot. But my own personal experiences dictate that my results are inconclusive. If that’s the case, how come so many people have said this to me and think it.

Even with celebrities I do not believe this to be true. In fact, if you look at the full Asian celebrities who are popular in Asia, they are much more attractive than the half-Asian celebrities from the U.S. and other parts of the world. I just don’t see it.

Whenever someone says “Half-Asian kids are cuter than full-Asian kids” or “Their kids are going to really cute because the dad is white and the girl is Asian”, it always catches me off guard. I hear this in greater frequency when the interracial couple consist of an attractive white man with an attractive Asian woman. Can equally attractive Asian man and woman not produce attractive offsprings as well?

Also, I’ve heard people say that the reason why half-Asians babies will grow up to be good looking is because they will be taller as if the increased height can be attributed automatically to the white man’s gene. They just assume that half-Asian kids will be more likely to be not as tall compared to half-Asian kids. This really baffles me and I just don’t get it.

I’ve even heard some Asian girls express their interest in marrying a white guy so their kids can be cuter. WTF? Does this imply that the Asian-ness somehow is a handicap or genetically diminished when it comes to breeding and producing offsprings? Geez, what am I some kind of Asian freak? I got 1 word for y’all…John Gossellin of “John & Kate Plus 8”! Barf!

Or, do people just mean that the unique mix of Asian and white make a person more attractive because of the brownish hair, brown eyes, etc? Hey, I’ve seen very pretty half-Asian girls and I’ve seen some f’ed up looking half-Asian girls as well so this generalization is beyond my comprehension. What do you think? Have you ever heard people make such generalizations of half-Asian kids and adults?

Chinese basketball team start a brawl with Georgetown: A Lesson for Asian men

My first reaction when I heard about the brawl between the Chinese basketball team and Georgetown in an exhibition match was, “Oh, there the American punk ass athletes go again causing trouble!”  But, it turns out that the brawl was instigated by the Chinese team, which was comprised of belligerent military guys according to the Washington Post.

From the perspective of an Asian American, we could learn from these Chinese thugs.  The mentality of these players, although belligerent, display a level of Asian pride and power that a lot of us living in white societies lack.  These guys refused to take shit from anyone, and they weren’t intimidated by the fact that the Hoyas were American and black and tall and strong.  Although their actions may have disgraced their team and country, it sends a message to the world that the Chinese athletes aren’t gonna take shit from nobody, especially on home court!  From a racial perspective, it is actually an empowering message.  I have never seen a group of Asians fighting a group of blacks or whites without fear like that.  Can you think of any other examples like this?

So I wanted to bring up a topic that I’ve noticed recently. It seems to me that as far as racism, bigotry, or prejudice, Asian women have far less been subject to these things than Asian men. A good example of this is when I was growing up, having just arrived to America, I had to start going to elementary school in a predominantly white neighborhood…the valleys in Cali. And wow, kids can be mean! Or just really honest. Either way, it was a traumatic period in my life and to this day, I think back on it and cringe. Most of Asian American friends (guys only) have gone through the same type of experiences. But the Asian American girls…they have not.

I’ve learned that racism is much more prevalent for Asian men than Asian women. I’ve also learned that racist behavior is done more by non-Asian men than non-Asian women. Perhaps there are just as many racist women out there as racist men but men just tend to be more open, vocal, upfront whereas the women hide it more, keep it to themselves, and publicize it less.

I don’t know if you can handle us Asian guys…

Asian guys are just like other guys in that they come in all shapes, sizes, and personalities.  American media will try to stereotype us as either geeks or comedians or martial artists, but Asians guys are so diverse and multifaceted.  It’s very apparent if you watch movies or TV shows from Asia.  They can be rebels, funny, romantic, intelligent, mysterious, sensitive, thoughtful, and so much more.

Despite the diversity, I think that there are some common positive traits that Asian guys tend to have due to common cultural influences and upbringing.  Especially since Asian countries tend to focus on community and familial thinking, many of these traits deal with maintaining harmony in relationships.  What that means for the ladies is that Asian guys are good at getting along and they aren’t as self-centered as some American guys.  Here are 5 traits that most Asian men I know exhibit.

1. Hardworking – Asians men are raised with a strong work ethic because many immigrant parents realize that the only way to compete in a foreign country is to work your yellow ass off!

I am NOT from North Korea!!! Stop asking me this!

I’ve been asked this question, with a serious face, more frequently lately. And I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because of the greater media coverage on North Korea these days. I do NOT look like Kim Jung Il at all so go figure. Oh yeah, maybe it’s because I’m Asian and all white people think Asian people look alike. I seriously have been asked this many times in the past year…always by white people of course. Asians would never ask this or even think it. It always catches me off guard when I get asked this because I look at the person thinking “Is this person for real?” And then I look at them more intently and realize “Wow, they are being completely serious.” Couple of times, I’ve answered back saying I am from North Korea and they exclaim, “Really? How did you get here?” Other times, I’ve said “Kim Jung Il’s youngest son…he’s my cousin”.

First off, there are hardly any North Koreans who have successfully defected and managed to migrate to the U.S. It’s possible but very rare unless they are government officials. If anything, they’d defect to South Korea and not Portland or Detroit. Second, even if I was a true North Korean defector, I would not be divulging that or admitting it to your dumb ass.

When people ask me these types of questions I really can’t help but to laugh at how ignorant and stupid some or most Americans are. It reminds me of a talk show I caught on TV the other day. Host had 3 random everyday people from the audience participate in a mini-Jeopardy game and one of the trivia was a photo of Jimmy Carter – they were asked to name who it was. All three got it wrong. Well, to be more clear, all three had no idea who it was. Unbelievable…

My other HALF-ASIAN friend told me that he told another person that he was from North Korea (as a joke). The other person then asked “Is the North the good guys or the bad guys?”.

Speechless…

Don’t believe your Asian parents: Marriage does not equal happiness

Many Asian parents start pressuring their kids to get married once they become adults. They say they want to see their grandchildren sooner rather than later. They start to get worried if you are getting up there in age, meaning age 25! They are afraid you’re going to hit your expiration date, and that nobody will love you like a box of curdled milk. They start trying to set you up with their friend’s friend’s daughters, like the girl that works at the teriyaki shop who looks like Margaret Cho. Meanwhile, you’re having a hard time because you never dated or developed your courting SKILLZ since these same parents locked you up in a room until you graduated and made you study without any sort of romance. What the hell?! Totally raised to fail.
